My New Comic - CLASH OF THE CLASSICS!
"Don Quixote Fights the War of the Worlds" is available, now! And so is Moon Lake: Guide to the Dark Side!
As threatened, I’ve got a couple new comics available today! Really, the entire history of literature has been but a prelude to the first, Clash of the Classics — an anthology series twisting famous books sideways, upside-down and inside-out. We’re burning the house down right away with our launch, “Don Quixote Fights the War of the Worlds,” and the one-shot digital comic’s available to buy and read this very moment.
That’s right. No pre-orders. No solicits. No waiting whatsoever. You can go get it, now.
I fully expect Cervantes and H.G. Wells to be rolling in their graves….
These aren’t the stories you remember, at all, and no book is safe! The scheme for each Clash is to pluck characters from one iconic title and drop them into another’s plot, then follow the ensuing chaos with an unflinching, gleeful eye. It’s like Marvel’s What If…? (but with the whole world of classic lit for us to play with) or Pride & Prejudice & Zombies (but far, far, far more iconoclastic).
I made this for anybody whose mind ever drifted in English class, imagining how much crazier the assigned reading could be. And I’ll bet that includes you.
You’ll notice I reunited with that phenom, Nikos Koutsis. I’ve been sitting on all the pages he’s drawn for the past few months and I’m still awed by how much energy he brought to this — the crossover nobody ever saw coming. Wait ‘til you see what a badass he’s made the Knight of La Mancha into.
Actually, why wait? Enjoy these preview pages, now, and see for yourself...
You’ve just seen how the story starts, but I guarantee you won’t ever in a million years guess where it ends. Nikos and I challenged each other to take Senor Q’s apocalyptic adventure as far it could go, and we can’t believe what Kypsel let us get away with.
They’re a new content platform with an innovative sales model. Kypsel explains it better than I can, but basically when readers buy a comic on their site, they can then get a commission sharing that comic with friends. Think of it as being a street team. This is the first original title Kypsel’s produced, and we’ve got more coming.
As mentioned, Clash of the Classics is an anthology series. Each one-shot mashes up different books and will feature different artists. I’ve written scripts for two more already, but we’re taking our time to make each one-shot truly stand on its own — and be as good as it can possibly be — instead of rushing anything out on some arbitrary schedule. Get to the end of this one, though, and you’ll have a good idea which Clashes are coming next.
Speaking of what’s next, I’ve already done interviews with some press outlets and they’ll be popping up over the next few weeks. A slew of sharp questions in each, really cutting to the quick. So, keep an eye out for those.
Now, for that other comic featuring yours truly. Tony Award winner Dan Fogler (whom you may recognize from Fantastic Beasts or the Offer, most recently) handpicked me to craft a tale for "Guide to the Dark Side," his Moon Lake series’ newest volume.
Moon Lake is a horror/comedy anthology that’s probably best described as Tales from the Crypt by way of Adult Swim. Dan teamed me up with that most versatile artist, Casey Crowe, and together we begat "Batshit Bottled Brilliance." It’s a horrifying, hilarious and even morbidly inspiring (?!) tale of a high school athletic program that gets turbo-charged by a cursed batch of bottled water. Call it "Hoosiers from Hell."
It has dorky secret societies, an earth-shaking race to the bathroom and what is surely the most gruesome game of field hockey ever played. What more could any human ever handle in a single eight-pager? Heavy Metal’s putting the book out and it’s available right this very instant at their store. So, glory is in your grasp!
When the Chuk Chronicles returns, I’ll surely have some new interviews to share, and will get back to fan mail. So, feel free to drop me a note and let me know what you thought of these comics. Maybe you’ll be featured here!
